Results of Christmas Quiz (12/8) @ Burlington 1st

Burlington 1st hosted this year’s December quiz, organized by Sarah Johnson. The quiz was held Dec. 8. An opening devotional was given by Rev. Terry Vance.

Weather dampened turnout for the quiz, but teams that made it were treated to a noon buffet!

District Teams compete at St. Louis


On Nov. 10, 20 teens qualified to represent the iowa district at the "Gateway to the Word" All-Star quiz in St. Louis. This mid-season event was held on Nov. 30-Dec. 1. These Iowa teens joined 44 teams from 25 districts that spanned from the Canadian border to the Mexican border.

The quizzers went head-to-head in exciting competition from Friday evening through most of Saturday. When the tournament was over, the Iowa teams had represented well. After 16 rounds of quizzing, the Iowa A team finished in 7th place while the Iowa B team finished 14th. Individually, Jonathan Elliott from Burlington 1st finished in 10th place out of 220 quizzers at the event.


New coach enjoys quizzing


Ann Bryen is a first year coach and leads the Teen Bible Quiz ministry at Council Bluffs Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene. She recently shared some of her thoughts on Bible quizzing.

"My husband was a part of Teen quizzing when he was a teen. While our kids were young, we were coaches for Children's Quizzing. When our oldest son became a teen, we asked our church to purchase jump seats and we moved up from being the coaches of Children's Quizzing to being the coaches of Teen Quizzing."

Ann says that she likes "the challenge and watching the kids jump to answer questions." Ann says, "When I first started coaching, i just told the kids they needed to study more. Now my husband and I both study so we can practice with the kids."

Ann thinks that Teen Bible Quizzing should be a part of a church's youth ministry. "It is such a positive program for kids and it can be a real confidence builder for them. It helps them learn to make choices. They meet new kids in a great Christian environment and learn they're not alone."
